Lo stile del gruppo fonde pop rock, elettronica e soul, con testi emotivi e potenti melodie. Interpretazione del significato
“Starlight (The Fame)”, ossia “Luce stellare (La Fama)” è un inno al desiderio di gloria, alla ricerca di luce, successo e di un ruolo da protagonista nella propria vita. Il protagonista vive un senso di incompletezza (“vivere la vita in frazioni”) e sogna da sempre la grande occasione, quella che cambia tutto. La “starlight” – letteralmente “luce stellare”, simbolicamente la celebrità – diventa la metafora di un traguardo tanto desiderato quanto difficile da comprendere appieno (“puoi spiegarmi il gioco?”).
È anche un brano sull’evasione, sulla fuga dalla routine, sul bisogno di sentirsi vivi in un mondo che sembra impostato a rallentatore. C’è il sogno infantile che si confronta con la dura realtà adulta e urbana, ma anche la voglia di crederci ancora, magari con un cocktail in mano e la videocamera accesa: “Questa vita è un ruolo che devo interpretare”.
